In one minute:

  • Riyadh is inland, so the shipment first travels to Dammam or Jeddah port, then sails to Tunisia.
  • A shared container is the cheapest choice for one or two rooms; a private one suits a full house or a car.
  • Parcels, documents and urgent items fly from King Khalid Airport to Tunis–Carthage.
  • Cars travel covered and strapped inside a closed container, after their export papers are completed in Riyadh.

How does your shipment get from Riyadh to Tunisia?

There’s no seaport in Riyadh, so every sea shipment has a road leg before it boards the ship. We pick the route by the sailing date and the size of the shipment, not by what’s easiest for us. The choice is usually between three routes:

Route How it works Time to Radès When we use it
Riyadh → Jeddah Islamic Port Truck on the highway, about 950 km, then the Red Sea and Suez Canal 22 – 30 days Most often, as Jeddah is closer to the Mediterranean
Riyadh → King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam Truck or rail via the dry port, then around the peninsula 28 – 38 days When the next sailing from Dammam is sooner
Riyadh → Tunis–Carthage airport Air freight from King Khalid International Airport 2 – 5 days Parcels, urgent and valuable items

The time difference between Jeddah and Dammam comes from the sea: a ship leaving Jeddah heads straight north to the Suez Canal, while one leaving Dammam first sails around Yemen and Oman. That’s why we prefer Jeddah for most Tunisia shipments, unless a Dammam sailing is days earlier and makes up the gap.

Riyadh districts we collect from

We cover north, south, east and west Riyadh: Al Narjis, Al Malqa, Al Yasmin, Al Sahafa, Al Olaya, Al Sulimaniyah, Al Malaz, Al Rawdah, Al Naseem, Al Rayyan, Al Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Al Suwaidi, Dhahrat Laban, Tuwaiq, Al Hazm and the newer neighbourhoods. We also collect from Al Kharj, Diriyah and Al Muzahmiyah for Tunisia shipments. Where large trucks can’t easily enter, a smaller truck takes your items to our warehouse, where they are loaded into the container.

Packing furniture in Riyadh homes

Riyadh homes have pieces you don’t often see elsewhere: long floor majlis seating, large rugs, coffee pots and serving sets, and wardrobes built into the wall. Each needs its own packing method, because the journey to Tunisia is long and involves several rounds of loading and unloading.

Furniture packing from Riyadh to Tunisia
  • Majlis seating and cushions: wrapped in plastic first against dust and humidity, then in moving blankets.
  • Rugs: cleaned, rolled, tied and covered in plastic.
  • Wardrobes: fully dismantled, with hinges and screws kept in a bag labelled with the piece.
  • Tableware and serving sets: wrapped piece by piece in paper, then placed in double-wall cartons.
  • Appliances: the fridge and washer are emptied and dried a day before, and the TV goes into a dedicated box.

Every carton gets a number, and its contents go on a single inventory list. Tunisian customs need that list, and so will you when you unpack in your new home.

Loading the container in Riyadh

For villas and standalone houses, the container can stand on its truck at the door, so the furniture is loaded directly and sealed in front of you. For flats in apartment buildings, we move the items in a closed truck to our warehouse and load the container there in tight layers: heavy pieces at the bottom, fragile ones on top, and gaps filled with small cartons so nothing moves on the way.

Loading the container from Riyadh to Tunisia

In a shared container your items are marked with their own colour or number and kept apart from other customers’ cargo, so everything is delivered complete in Tunisia without mix-ups.

Shared container or private container?

It’s the question Riyadh customers ask most, and the answer depends mainly on volume:

  1. Under about 12 cubic metres: a shared container is clearly cheaper, and you pay for your volume only.
  2. Between 12 and 20 cubic metres: we compare both prices, as a 20 ft container may come close.
  3. Over 20 cubic metres: a private container is usually better value and faster through customs.
  4. If you have a car: a private container is the way, 20 ft for the car alone or 40 ft with furniture.

Car shipping from Riyadh to Tunisia

We collect the car from your home in Riyadh, or you bring it to our warehouse, and it travels to the port inside the same container it will sail in. We fit a tailored protective cover, chock the wheels and strap them to the container floor, so it stays put however the ship moves.

Car shipping from Riyadh to Tunisia

Before the date, prepare the following:

  1. A valid registration in your name, with no fines or liens on the car.
  2. A vehicle export request through Absher or the Riyadh traffic department, with the plates handed in.
  3. Copies of the owner’s passport and iqama.
  4. An empty car, with a quarter tank of fuel or less.
  5. A check on Tunisia’s import rules for your case, such as the car’s age and fuel type, before booking.

Air freight from Riyadh to Tunisia

Parcels and urgent items leave King Khalid International Airport for Tunis–Carthage and arrive within two to five working days. It suits official documents, clothes for the first days after a move, small valuable devices and traders’ samples.

Air freight is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. A simple example: a box of 60 × 50 × 40 cm weighing 9 kg has a volumetric weight of 120,000 ÷ 6,000 = 20 kg, so it is charged at 20 kg, not 9. That’s why we recommend small, full boxes rather than one large box that’s half empty.

Shipping goods from Riyadh for Tunisian traders

Many Riyadh shipments to Tunisia are commercial: clothing, perfumes, appliances, spare parts and packaged food products. We collect the goods from the supplier or your warehouse, stack them on pallets, and prepare the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin when required. Small quantities go in a shared container, and large orders take a private one.

Documents required

  • Copies of the sender’s and receiver’s passports, and the resident’s iqama.
  • A numbered inventory in Arabic or French.
  • A commercial invoice and packing list for goods.
  • Car export papers if a car is included.
  • The bill of lading, which we issue at loading.

Customs in Tunisia and what’s paid there

The container reaches Radès, where the broker files the customs declaration and attends the inspection. Customs duties and taxes are paid in Tunisia and vary with the type of goods and the receiver’s status. A Tunisian returning to settle may be eligible for relief on personal effects under the rules in force, while commercial goods follow their own regime. Before shipping, we explain what our price covers and what is paid on arrival.

What can’t be shipped to Tunisia

  • Gas cylinders, fuel and flammable materials.
  • Weapons and anything resembling them.
  • Medicines in large quantities or without a prescription.
  • Fresh food, plants and soil.
  • Loose lithium batteries by air.

Delivery inside Tunisia

After clearance in Radès, your belongings go to your address in Tunis, Ariana, Ben Arous or Manouba, or to Sfax, Sousse, Monastir, Nabeul, Bizerte, Gabès and beyond. We agree on a delivery time with you, the crew carries everything inside, and reassembles the furniture if that’s part of the agreement.

Mistakes people make when shipping from Riyadh to Tunisia

  1. Booking late: shared containers close on fixed dates, and booking in the last week may mean waiting for the next sailing.
  2. Shipping everything: some old furniture costs more to ship than to buy new in Tunisia, so assess it before packing.
  3. A vague inventory: a carton marked “miscellaneous” slows the customs inspection.
  4. Leaving car papers to the end: the export request takes time, so start it before the shipping date.
  5. Packing important papers in the container: passports and certificates always stay with you.
