What matters most:
- Cheapest: a shared container, paying for your volume in cubic metres.
- Fastest: air freight to Istanbul, charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater.
- Ports: Mersin for the south and centre, Ambarlı for Istanbul and Marmara, İzmir for the Aegean.
- Turkish customs: strict on paperwork, asking for a detailed inventory and matching names on the passport and bill of lading.
- Cars: shipped inside a closed container, but importing them into Turkey is restricted, so we review your case before booking.
Shipping methods from Saudi Arabia to Turkey
For Turkey we rely on two routes: the sea for large volumes and the air for anything that needs speed. The table shows when to choose each:
| Method | Best for | Approx. time | Charged by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared container | One or two rooms, cartons, appliances | 20 – 35 days | Cubic metre |
| 20 ft container | Small or medium flat, or a car | 15 – 30 days | Whole container |
| 40 ft container | Full house, or a car with furniture | 15 – 30 days | Whole container |
| Air freight | Parcels, documents, urgent items | 3 – 5 days | Actual or volumetric kilo |
Sea freight: which Turkish port suits you?
The container leaves Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean. From there we choose the arrival port closest to your address in Turkey, because road transport inside Turkey after the port adds time and cost:
| Arrival port | Usually serves | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Mersin | Adana, Gaziantep, Konya, Antalya, Ankara | Closest to the Suez Canal, shortest voyage |
| Ambarlı (Istanbul) | Istanbul, Bursa, Kocaeli, Sapanca, Trabzon | Best for Istanbul and the Marmara region |
| İzmir | İzmir, Manisa, Aydın, Bodrum | For the Aegean coast and western Turkey |
A 20 ft container holds about 28 to 30 cubic metres of packed furniture, and a 40 ft about 58 to 60. If your belongings are under roughly a quarter of a container, a shared container is better value.

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey
Parcels leave the airports of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam for Istanbul Airport, and from there reach every other province. It takes about three to five working days and suits official documents, clothes for the first days after a move, small devices, trade samples and gifts.
Air freight is charged on the chargeable weight, the greater of actual and volumetric weight. A large light box is charged on its size, so we recommend full medium-sized boxes.

Majlis seating, appliances and single pieces are priced by volume, so send us photos or a list and we’ll give you the price. Prices cover shipping; any customs duties in Turkey are paid there, and we explain them before shipping.
What determines your shipment’s price?
- Volume: every cubic metre in a shared container counts, and good dismantling saves space.
- Container type: shared for small volumes, private once you approach half a container.
- Departure port: Jeddah is closer to Turkey than Dammam, so the voyage is shorter.
- Arrival port and city: delivery far from the port adds road transport inside Turkey.
- Special packing: wooden crates for glass and antiques add cost but protect them.
- Your customs status: residents, returning citizens and visitors face different requirements and charges.
Shipping furniture and personal effects to Turkey
People moving to Turkey ship a whole home, and those who bought a flat there want to furnish it with their own furniture from the Kingdom. Either way, the work starts with an inspection of your belongings, then we suggest what is worth shipping and what may be cheaper to buy in Turkey.

- Wardrobes and beds are dismantled, with screws kept in numbered bags.
- Sofas and mattresses go into plastic, then moving blankets.
- Appliances go into double-wall cartons; the fridge and washer are emptied and dried a day before.
- Glass, mirrors and antiques go into wooden crates.
- Every box has a number matching a line in the inventory.
Turkish customs in particular ask for a detailed inventory, including the brand and serial number of electrical appliances. We record these details during packing, not after, so clearance isn’t delayed.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey
We ship the car inside a closed container, covered and secured with chocks and straps, so it arrives as it left. But before any booking, you should know that bringing a car into Turkey is more restricted than in many countries: foreigners are usually allowed only a temporary import tied to their residence and the car’s age, returning Turkish citizens have their own rules, and permanent import carries high taxes. So we review your situation with the broker in Turkey before shipping, so the car doesn’t arrive and then sit in the port.

- A valid registration in the shipper’s name, with no fines or liens.
- A vehicle export request through Absher or the traffic department, with the Saudi plates handed in.
- Copies of your passport, iqama and driving licence.
- Confirmation of Turkey’s car entry rules for your case before booking.
- An empty car with no personal belongings inside.
Shipping commercial goods to Turkey
A trader sending goods to Turkey needs a commercial invoice and packing list, and sometimes a certificate of origin, because Turkish customs calculate duties on the type, value and origin of goods. We stack the goods on wrapped pallets, prepare the papers and send copies to the broker before the ship arrives.
- Small quantities: in a shared container, per cubic metre or ton.
- Large quantities: a private 20 or 40 ft container.
- Samples: by air, with the main quantity following by sea.
Turkish customs: what do they require for personal effects?
A family’s used belongings can enter Turkey with concessions, but the conditions depend on your status. These are the main points we review with every customer:
- Foreign residents: usually need a residence permit, a notarised rental contract or a title deed (tapu).
- Returning Turkish citizens: usually need proof of permanent return from a Turkish consulate.
- New items: anything arriving in its original carton may be treated as new goods and taxed.
- Electrical appliances: preferably not duplicated, and in line with the household’s size.
- Names: the name on the passport and the bill of lading must match exactly.
- Timing: there’s a set window between your entry into Turkey and the shipment’s arrival, so we coordinate the shipping date with your travel.
These rules are updated from time to time, so we confirm them for your case with the broker in Turkey before the container is closed.
Insuring your shipment to Turkey
The journey to Turkey involves road, then sea, then road again, with lifting and unloading at every stage. Good packing prevents most damage, but we also offer cargo insurance calculated as a percentage of the value you declare, and recommend it for expensive appliances, cars and furniture that is hard to replace. We photograph your belongings before loading so any claim is clear and quick.
Documents required
- Copies of the sender’s and receiver’s passports, plus the iqama for residents of the Kingdom.
- A detailed inventory in English or Turkish, with appliance brands and serial numbers.
- Proof of your status in Turkey: residence permit, rental contract, tapu or return certificate.
- A commercial invoice and packing list for goods.
- Car export papers if any, and the bill of lading, which we issue at loading.
Prohibited and restricted items
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives and flammable materials.
- Meat products and fresh food, and plants beyond the permitted number.
- Medicines in commercial quantities or without a prescription.
- Telecommunication and transmitting equipment may need special approval.
- Loose lithium batteries by air.
