Moving furniture from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Moving your home from Saudi Arabia to the UAE? We survey and estimate the volume, dismantle the furniture, pack and number every piece, load it on a closed truck that arrives in days, reassemble it in your flat or villa, and move your car.

p>We move your home furniture from any city in the Kingdom to the UAE door to door: we survey and estimate the volume, dismantle the furniture, pack every piece with the right material and number it, and load it onto a closed truck that crosses from Al Batha to Ghuwaifat, usually reaching Abu Dhabi and Dubai in one to five working days depending on your city, where we unload and reassemble it in your new home. We move your car on an enclosed carrier and prepare the customs papers.

Moving your home to the UAE in a few lines:

  • Time: one to five working days by land depending on your city.
  • Truck: a private trailer for a full home, a shared one for one or two rooms.
  • Service: dismantling, packing, inventory and loading, then unloading and reassembly in the UAE.
  • Customs: used furniture of someone moving to live there is usually exempt.
  • Car: on an enclosed carrier at about the same time.

How does moving furniture from Saudi Arabia to the UAE work?

Moving a home to another country is not a move across town, and the difference lies in the preparation before the truck moves. These are the stages as we carry them out:

  1. Survey: a visit or video call where we see the rooms and estimate the volume in cubic metres.
  2. Quote: an itemised price with what it covers, the truck type, and the loading and arrival dates.
  3. Papers: we prepare the packing list and copies of the receiver’s Emirates ID and residence.
  4. Dismantling: bedrooms, wardrobes, kitchen, air conditioners and curtains.
  5. Packing and numbering: every piece in its material, every carton with a number and contents.
  6. Loading: in a single day for a full home, with the packing list checked.
  7. Road and crossing: the truck to Al Batha, then clearance at Ghuwaifat.
  8. Delivery and reassembly: furniture carried to the rooms and reassembled, and the items checked with you.

How long moving furniture to the UAE takes

Collection city Approx. time to Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Dammam One to two working days
Al Ahsa One to two working days
Riyadh Two to three working days
Qassim Two to four working days
Madinah Three to five working days
Jeddah Three to five working days
Makkah Three to five working days

These times are for a private truck from loading day to delivery. A shared truck may wait a few days to fill. Add about a day for Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The cost of moving furniture from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

What you move Method Price
Cartons and personal items Land – shared truck From SAR 14 per kg
A room or studio with dismantling and packing Land – shared truck From SAR 1,380
Two- or three-bedroom flat with living room Land – closed trailer From SAR 4,140
Medium or large villa Land – private closed trailer From SAR 8,280
Sedan Car carrier From SAR 1,100
SUV Car carrier From SAR 1,380

These are starting prices including packing and door-to-door transport. As every home is different, we do not give a final price before seeing what you are moving.

What determines the price of a furniture move?

  • Volume in cubic metres: the number, size and type of rooms and pieces, the biggest factor.
  • Truck type: shared is cheaper, private is faster.
  • Collection city in the Kingdom: the Eastern Province and Al Ahsa are closer than the west.
  • The emirate you are moving to: Abu Dhabi and Dubai are not priced like Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
  • Floor and lift: towers need the freight lift booked, and we may need an external hoist in the Kingdom.
  • Dismantling and reassembly: especially kitchens, air conditioners and chandeliers.
  • Special packing: wooden crates for antiques and glass.
  • Insurance: if you choose it, as a percentage of value.

Photograph the rooms and send them on WhatsApp and we will estimate the volume for you.

Survey and volume estimate

Most price disputes come from a wrong volume estimate: a truck is agreed, then on loading day the furniture does not fit. So we survey before quoting, with a visit in the major cities or a video call where you walk us through the rooms one by one, and we ask about the store room, the roof and the garden.

We also flag something specific to the UAE: many homes there are flats in towers, and the new flat may be smaller than your home in the Kingdom. Ask about the room sizes before shipping, so you do not move furniture that will not fit.

Dismantling furniture before the move

Whatever can be taken apart packs better, takes less space and arrives intact. So we dismantle:

  • Bedrooms: beds, bedside tables and dressing tables.
  • Wardrobes: each panel separately, with doors and shelves numbered.
  • Wooden and aluminium kitchens: if you are taking them, unit by unit.
  • Window and split air conditioners, with the split units’ gas recovered properly.
  • Curtains, fittings and wall-mounted screens.
  • Large dining tables and desks.

Each piece’s screws go in a bag labelled with its number, tied to the piece itself, so nothing is lost at reassembly.

Packing furniture piece by piece

Furniture packing from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Item Packing material
Sofas and majlis seating Plastic, then moving blankets
Wooden panels Cardboard corners, then plastic or blankets
Glass and mirrors Protective frames or wooden crates
Dishes and crystal Wrapping paper for each piece, then divided cartons
Screens Dedicated padded boxes
Clothes Clothes cartons, or wardrobe boxes with hangers
Books Small reinforced cartons
Rugs Rolled, tied and wrapped in plastic
Chandeliers and antiques Wooden crates lined with foam

The road to the UAE spends long hours in the desert, so we use heavier materials than for a move within the city.

Numbering cartons and the packing list

The packing list is what the broker at Ghuwaifat checks the load against, and what you check your belongings against on delivery. So we write on every carton its number, the room it came from and a short note of its contents, and record on the list:

  • The number of every piece or carton.
  • Its contents: clothes, dishes, books, toys.
  • Appliances by brand and type.
  • The condition of important pieces, with photos.

Loading the truck

We load a full home in a single day in most cases. Heavy at the bottom, fragile on top, mattresses and sofas along the sides, gaps filled and the load strapped. In apartment buildings we use the lift, or an external hoist for pieces that will not fit the stairs.

Loading the truck from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Truck type Best for How it is priced
Shared truck Cartons, one or two rooms, a few appliances Per kg, per item or per cubic metre
Private dyna or medium truck A small flat or an office One price for the whole trip
13 to 15 m closed trailer A villa or large home, or goods One price for the whole trip
Refrigerated truck Dates, food and sensitive medicines Per pallet or per trip
Enclosed car carrier One or more cars Per car, by size

Before the truck is closed we check the load against the list and send you a photo of it.

Moving electrical appliances

  • Fridge and freezer: emptied and unplugged a day before to defrost and dry, and moved upright.
  • Washing machine: drained, with the drum fixed using transit bolts if available.
  • Split air conditioner: gas recovered and dismantled properly, with the two units packed separately.
  • Screens: in padded boxes, upright, not flat.
  • Small appliances: in their original boxes if available, or in padded cartons.

Moving your car with the furniture

We move your car on an enclosed car carrier close to the furniture’s date, after cleaning, photographing and covering it with a protective cover and securing it with straps and chocks.

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Registering an imported car in the UAE has conditions, usually chiefly that it is no more than ten years old from its year of manufacture, passes the technical inspection, and comes with an export certificate from the traffic department in the Kingdom and proof of ownership. A car already cleared through customs in a GCC country may be exempt from UAE customs duty on proof of that; otherwise duty and VAT apply. These conditions can change, so we review your car’s details before booking. Its papers from the Kingdom: a valid registration, no fines or liens, an export request through Absher or the traffic department with the plates handed in, the purchase invoice or sale contract, and a copy of your ID or iqama.

If you will drive your own car to the UAE for a visit and bring it back, that is an ordinary crossing at Al Batha with valid insurance covering the UAE and the car’s papers, and needs no shipping.

What customs in the UAE asks for

Before the truck moves we make sure your file with the broker is complete, because one missing paper holds the truck at Ghuwaifat. Usually required:

  • A copy of the receiver’s passport and Emirates ID.
  • A copy of a valid UAE residence for non-nationals.
  • A numbered packing list with the contents of every carton and item.
  • An official authorisation for the customs broker.
  • Avoid shipping new boxed appliances in quantity, as they may be treated as goods.

It is best to carry medicines, gold and important documents with you and ship the rest with an accurate list, which is what lets clearance pass in hours.

GCC-origin goods and the customs exemption

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are members of the GCC customs union, and goods of GCC national origin enter the UAE free of customs duties when accompanied by a valid certificate of origin. Goods of foreign origin are treated under the customs union rules and may attract duties or UAE VAT depending on their situation. So we ask traders for the commercial invoice, certificate of origin and packing list before loading.

Documents required for shipping to the UAE

  • A copy of the sender’s ID or iqama and passport.
  • A copy of the receiver’s passport and Emirates ID.
  • A numbered packing list.
  • For goods: a commercial invoice, certificate of origin and packing list.
  • For cars: the export certificate from the traffic department and the purchase invoice.
  • An authorisation for the clearing company in the UAE.

Clearance at the crossing

At Al Batha the export papers are stamped; at Ghuwaifat the contents are checked against the list. The queue sometimes grows before holidays and breaks, and we tell you when you book.

Delivery and reassembly at your home in the UAE

After release the truck continues to your address in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah or any other emirate, and we tell you its arrival a day ahead so you can book the tower’s freight lift. The crew unloads the furniture and carries it to the rooms according to the numbers on the cartons, then reassembles beds, wardrobes and chandeliers, and removes the packing material if that is part of the agreement.

Delivery in the UAE from Saudi Arabia

Finally, you check the items against the packing list with us before signing for delivery.

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE goes from the airports of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah to the airports of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and usually takes one to two working days.

Air suits:

  • Documents, contracts and certificates.
  • Small devices such as laptops and phones in their original boxes.
  • Commercial samples and urgent spare parts.
  • Gifts and light personal items.

It is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight; send us the weight and dimensions and we will work it out for you. Many of our customers send a suitcase of urgent things by air and leave the rest of the home to the truck.

Preparation checklist before moving day

When What to do
Two weeks or more before Book the loading date, and check the size of your new home in the UAE.
A week before Decide what you will move and what you will sell or leave, and check the registration conditions for your car.
Three days before Gather documents, gold and medicines in a bag that stays with you, and book the tower’s freight lift.
A day before Empty and dry the fridge and washing machine, and unplug the appliances.
Loading day Be there or have someone stand in for you, and check the list before the truck is closed.

Common mistakes we help you avoid

  • Estimating the volume by eye without a survey, then finding the truck is too small.
  • Moving furniture that will not fit the new flat in the tower.
  • Forgetting to book the freight lift, so the truck waits for hours below the tower.
  • Packing important documents inside the shipped cartons.
  • Shipping a car before checking its registration conditions in the UAE.
  • A generic packing list that does not match the load, delaying release.

Temporary storage

Sometimes you need to vacate your home in the Kingdom before you receive your flat in the UAE. In that case we store your furniture, packed, in our warehouse until the date you set, then load and ship it.

Protecting your belongings on the road

Good packing prevents most damage, and insurance covers what packing cannot. We offer it as a percentage of the shipment’s value and the choice is yours; either way, we photograph the important pieces before the truck is closed.

What cannot be shipped to the UAE

  • Flammable materials, gas cylinders and fuel.
  • Weapons, ammunition and anything resembling them.
  • Narcotics and restricted medicines without a prescription and permission.
  • Seeds and plants without agricultural permits.
  • Counterfeit goods and anything banned under either country’s rules.
  • Loose lithium batteries by air.
