The shipment’s route from Makkah to Oman
| Stage | Details | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection and packing | At your home in Makkah, with dismantling and inventory | One day |
| Makkah → Riyadh → Empty Quarter crossing | About 1,850 km | Two to three days |
| Crossing and clearance | Empty Quarter, then Ramlat Khaylah | Hours |
| Crossing → your address | Ibri, then Muscat and the other wilayats | One day |
The truck leaves Makkah onto the highway east via Taif, then Riyadh, then south-east to Haradh and the Empty Quarter road. The road is long, so we arrange the load to stay steady for the whole trip.
Which crossing does your shipment from Makkah use?
| Route | Crossing | Usually suits | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empty Quarter road | Saudi Empty Quarter crossing → Omani Ramlat Khaylah crossing | Most shipments to Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah and Salalah | The Saudi road to the crossing is about 564 km from the Al Batha road junction through the desert |
| Via the UAE | Al Batha → Ghuwaifat, then the UAE–Oman crossings | Some shipments to Buraimi, North Al Batinah and Musandam | Needs extra transit papers; we use it when it suits the address better |
The Empty Quarter crossing is the crossing for Makkah shipments to Oman, leading to Ramlat Khaylah and then Ibri. Sea is not used for furniture, as the ship would go round the Arabian Peninsula.

Transit time and delivery areas in Oman
Shipments from Makkah reach most areas of Oman in four to six working days from loading day. We avoid Makkah’s peak periods, such as Hajj and the last ten days of Ramadan, by fixing a loading date in advance. Add a day or two for Salalah and Dhofar, as the road south from Ibri via Adam and Haima is long.
| Governorate in Oman | Some of the wilayats we deliver to |
|---|---|
| Muscat | Muscat, Muttrah, Bawshar, Seeb, Al Amerat and Quriyat |
| North and South Al Batinah | Sohar, Shinas, Saham, Rustaq, Al Musanaah and Barka |
| Al Dakhiliyah | Nizwa, Bahla, Izki, Samail and Adam |
| Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi | Ibri, Yanqul, Al Buraimi and Mahdah |
| Al Sharqiyah | Sur, Ibra, Al Mudhaibi and Jaalan |
| Dhofar and Al Wusta | Salalah, Taqah, Mirbat, Duqm and Haima |
Shipping from Makkah during the seasons
Makkah is crowded during Hajj and Ramadan, and truck movement is restricted on some roads and in districts near the Haram at those times. So we fix the loading date with you days ahead, or move your belongings in a smaller vehicle to a truck waiting outside the busy area.
Some of our customers in Makkah are Omani families who live there for work or to be near the Haram, and on their return it is usually a full home, so we prepare a private truck.
Packing furniture in Makkah

Makkah homes usually have serving sets, chandeliers and majlis seating, which need packing for a long road:
- Chandeliers taken apart, with each crystal piece wrapped on its own in a dedicated box.
- Serving sets, cups and coffee pots in divided cartons.
- Majlis seating and sofas in plastic, then blankets.
- Wardrobes and beds dismantled, with screws numbered.
- Mirrors and paintings in protective frames.
Loading in Makkah and the truck type
In Makkah’s many-storey buildings we use an external hoist for large pieces. The truck is then loaded: heavy at the bottom, fragile on top, straps tight.

| Truck type | Best for | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|
| Shared truck | Cartons, one or two rooms, a few appliances | Per item or per cubic metre |
| Private dyna or medium truck | A small flat or an office | One price for the whole trip |
| 13 to 15 m closed trailer | A villa or large home, or goods | One price for the whole trip |
| Refrigerated truck | Dates and sensitive food | Per pallet or per trip |
| Enclosed car carrier | One or more cars | Per car, by size |
A few items are moved to our Jeddah warehouse to be loaded onto the shared truck heading to Oman.
Car shipping from Makkah to Oman
We collect the car from your home in Makkah, clean, photograph and cover it with a protective cover, then load it onto an enclosed car carrier.

Oman has conditions for importing used cars from GCC countries, set by the Royal Oman Police, including that a private car is less than seven years old, and that an export certificate issued by the car’s registration authority in its home country is presented instead of a clearance certificate. These conditions may be amended, so we review your car’s details with the broker in Oman before booking. Its papers from the Kingdom: a valid registration, no fines or liens, an export request through Absher or the traffic department with the plates handed in, the purchase invoice or sale contract, and a copy of your ID or iqama.
If you will drive your own car to Oman for a visit and bring it back, that is an ordinary crossing with valid insurance covering Oman and the car’s papers, and needs no shipping.
Delivery in Oman
After release the truck continues to your address, in Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Nizwa or elsewhere. The crew unloads the furniture, carries it inside and reassembles bedrooms and chandeliers if that is part of the agreement.

Air freight from Makkah to Oman
For parcels and documents that cannot wait for the long road, we send them by air via King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to Muscat International Airport or Salalah Airport, usually arriving in one to three working days including clearance.
Air suits:
- Documents, contracts and certificates.
- Small devices such as laptops and phones in their original boxes.
- Commercial samples and urgent spare parts.
- Gifts and light personal items.
It is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight; send us the weight and dimensions and we will work it out for you. The road to Oman is long, so air really makes a difference for urgent items, while land is far cheaper for furniture and appliances.

Omani customs and used furniture
Used furniture and personal belongings of someone moving to live in Oman are usually treated as personal effects, provided they are for private use and the owner proves the move. The broker at the crossing handles them according to customs’ assessment of each shipment. Usually required:
- A copy of the receiver’s passport and Omani ID card or residence card.
- Proof of moving to live or work in Oman for non-Omanis, such as a work visa or lease.
- A numbered packing list with the contents of every carton and item.
- An official authorisation for the customs broker.
- Avoid shipping new boxed appliances in quantity, as they may be treated as goods.
Some items need prior permission, such as medicines in quantity. We tell you before packing so you can decide what to ship and what to carry with you.
GCC-origin goods and the customs exemption
Saudi Arabia and Oman are members of the GCC customs union, and goods of GCC national origin enter Oman free of customs duties when accompanied by a valid certificate of origin. Goods of foreign origin are treated under the customs union rules and may attract duties or Omani VAT depending on their situation. So we ask traders for the commercial invoice, certificate of origin and packing list before loading.
Documents required for shipping to Oman

- A copy of the receiver’s passport and ID or residence card in Oman.
- A numbered packing list.
- For goods: a commercial invoice, certificate of origin and packing list.
- For cars: the export certificate from the traffic department and the purchase invoice.

Crossing and clearance at the Empty Quarter crossing
The truck leaves the Saudi Empty Quarter crossing once the export papers are stamped, then enters the Omani Ramlat Khaylah crossing, where the broker files the customs declaration and the load is checked against the packing list, before continuing to Ibri and the rest of Oman.
Cargo insurance
The road to Oman is one of the longest land routes from the Kingdom, crossing hundreds of kilometres of the Empty Quarter. So we pack for a long journey and recommend insuring cars, expensive appliances and antiques for a small percentage of their declared value, and we photograph your belongings before loading.
