Customs exemption for returning Moroccans
A Moroccan living in the Kingdom who returns to settle in Morocco can usually bring in used furniture, appliances and personal effects free of duties, under conditions Moroccan customs usually apply as follows:
- A change-of-residence certificate, or a sworn statement legalised by the Moroccan consulate in Riyadh or Jeddah.
- Proof of your residence and work in the Kingdom, such as the iqama or employment contract.
- A detailed inventory, dated and signed by you.
- Household appliances are usually accepted at one per type, and other items have a value ceiling.
- Belongings are imported in one or at most two shipments, through the same customs office, within a set period of the certificate date.
These conditions may be amended, so we write the inventory in Arabic and French to match what you’ll submit, and review the papers with the broker in Morocco before the container is closed.
Documents required
- A copy of the sender’s passport and the receiver’s national ID card in Morocco.
- A numbered inventory in Arabic and French.
- The change-of-residence certificate for permanent returnees.
- A commercial invoice and certificate of origin for goods.
- Car export papers if any, and the bill of lading, which we issue at loading.
Cargo insurance
The voyage to Morocco is one of the longest sea routes from the Kingdom, passing the Suez Canal and then the Strait of Gibraltar. So we recommend cargo insurance as a percentage of the declared value, especially for cars and expensive appliances, and photograph your belongings before loading.
