What is a dabab and why does it suit Jeddah?
A dabab is a small single-cab pickup with an open, low-sided cargo bed, smaller than a wanet and far smaller than a dyna truck. Its size is exactly why it works in Jeddah. Districts such as Al Balad, Al Hindawiyah, Al Kandarah and Al Ruwais have lanes a big moving truck cannot pass, most buildings in Al Safa, Al Marwah and Al Faisaliyah have no proper parking, and at rush hour a truck struggles to stop for even a few minutes outside a building. A dabab pulls up at the door, slips out of traffic quickly and is not bound by the hours when trucks are banned from entering the city.
The second reason is cost. Most everyday moves do not fill a truck: one fridge, a bed and a nightstand, a desk and a chair, or a shop order. Moving these by dabab means paying for what you need, not for a big vehicle driving half empty.
Note: a dabab is not the answer for a whole home. A three-bedroom home by dabab means many trips, more wear on the furniture and more time; a moving truck with a crew is the cheaper choice there.
How much does a dabab carry?
Dababs in Jeddah come in a few sizes, but most beds take a single dismantled room. This table helps you see whether one trip is enough:
| What you want moved | One dabab trip enough? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| A fridge, washer or cooker | Yes, with room for more | The fridge always travels upright |
| A dismantled bedroom (bed, wardrobe, dresser, nightstand) | Usually yes | A large four-door wardrobe may need a wanet |
| A three-piece sofa set | Yes | Covered well because the bed is open |
| A bachelor room or student room | Yes | With cartons, mattress and a small fridge |
| A small office: two desks, chairs and a filing cabinet | Yes | Large desks are dismantled |
| Cartons, purchases and parcels | Yes | Even dozens of medium cartons |
| A two-bedroom flat with living room | No, two or three trips | A wanet or dyna is cheaper |
| A full house or villa | No | A moving truck with a crew |
What I move by dabab
Single pieces of furniture
Sofas, beds, small wardrobes, dining tables, desks, bookcases, TV units, mattresses and chairs. I dismantle what needs dismantling and cover fabric and wood so nothing gets dirty or scratched on the way.
Home appliances
Fridges, washers, dryers, gas cookers, water coolers, screens, and window or split ACs once removed. Appliances travel upright and are strapped to the side of the bed so they cannot shift.
Showroom and seller pickups
A new sofa from a showroom, a used bedroom set you bought from someone in another district, or appliances from a shop. I collect from the showroom or seller and deliver to your home, and I can stop at more than one seller on the same trip.
Shop goods and orders
Cartons of stock from a warehouse to a shop, orders delivered to several customers, or restaurant and café supplies between two branches.
Events
Chairs, tables, speakers and serving equipment for a party or gathering, and a return trip after the event agreed from the start.
Parcels and shipments
Collecting a parcel from a shipping office and bringing it home, or taking your cartons from home to the shipping office or the airport.
Dabab, wanet, dyna or flatbed?
Each vehicle has its job. Choosing bigger than you need costs more, and choosing smaller means repeat trips:
| Criterion | Dabab | Wanet | Dyna | Flatbed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suitable load | Single items and one room | One or two rooms | A flat or house | A broken-down car or equipment |
| Narrow streets | Best | Good | Hard | Hard |
| Truck ban hours | Not affected | Not affected | Affected | Affected |
| Cost | Lowest | Medium | Higher | Depends on the job |
| Protection from sun and dust | With covers | With covers | Usually a closed box | Open |
| Best for | Errands and belongings | Two rooms or many appliances | Home moves | Towing cars |
When is a dyna better than a dabab? When your load is more than about a room and a half, when you have a large wardrobe that does not come apart or very long pieces, or when you want a fully closed box. If your load sits between the two, a wanet is the middle option.
Dabab prices in Jeddah
A dabab’s price depends on the trip itself, but these starting prices help you estimate before you ask:
| Trip | Price |
|---|---|
| One item within the same district (fridge, washer or sofa) | From SAR 46 |
| A trip between two Jeddah districts | From SAR 74 |
| A full dabab load from north to south Jeddah | From SAR 185 |
| An extra loading helper | From SAR 46 |
| Removing a split AC and reinstalling it at the new place | From SAR 230 |
| A trip from Jeddah to Makkah | From SAR 185 |
| Taif, Rabigh, Khulais and Al Kamil | Set once I know the load and address |
These are starting prices; I give you the final price before loading, once I know what you are moving and from where to where. It does not change on arrival as long as the load is as you described it.
Transport only or full service?
The transport price covers the vehicle, loading, strapping, covering and unloading at your door. Full service adds dismantling and reassembly, packing, an extra helper and carrying up floors. If your things are already dismantled and packed and you have someone to help, the transport price alone is enough.
What raises or lowers the price?
| Factor | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Distance | A trip within the district costs less than one from Obhur to Al Jamiah |
| Load size | One item costs less than a full bed |
| Floor and lift | Stairs with no lift take more time and effort |
| Dismantling and reassembly | Added when a bed, wardrobe or AC needs it |
| Packing | Glass, screens and ornaments need protective materials |
| Number of stops | Calling at several sellers or customers adds time |
| Timing | Urgent trips and very late at night differ from normal hours |
| Waiting | Long waits for the receiver or seller are counted |
Six ways to cut the cost of a dabab trip
- Group your errands into one day. A showroom pickup and a parcel drop in the same direction cost less than two separate trips.
- Dismantle what you can yourself. A dismantled bed and table take half the space, and one trip may do instead of two.
- Empty drawers and wardrobes. An empty piece is lighter and quicker to carry and needs no extra helper.
- Send clear photos. Photos prevent surprises: I know the size from the start, so the price does not change on the day.
- Arrange the parking spot. Every minute spent looking for parking or waiting for the lift is extra time.
- Book early for busy times. Month-end, the days before school and before Eid are busy, and booking ahead avoids the urgent rate.
Dismantling and packing before loading

An open bed means your things need more protection than in a closed truck, especially with Jeddah’s sun, humidity and dust on some roads. So I never load anything that can scratch or break without a cover. I dismantle beds, wardrobes and large tables and put the screws in a bag tied to the piece itself so nothing is lost on reassembly day.
| Item | How it is protected |
|---|---|
| Sofas and mattresses | Clear film then a fabric cover; the mattress in a protective bag |
| Screens, mirrors and paintings | Bubble film and rigid cardboard, carried upright, never flat |
| Glass tables | Foam corners and cardboard on the top; the glass separate if it lifts off |
| Wood and wardrobes | Moving blankets against scratches, doors tied shut |
| Plates and kitchenware | Packing paper in double-wall cartons marked “fragile” |
| Appliances | Doors taped shut and fully covered against dust |
Tip: if you have valuable or many pieces, ask for professional packing with the trip. The price difference is small next to a broken screen or mirror.
Loading, strapping and covering
How a dabab is loaded decides the safety of your things more than the road does. Heavy items go at the front near the cab, appliances stand upright and strapped to the side, mattresses and sofas line the edges to protect what is between them, and cartons fill the gaps so nothing moves. Then I strap the load with ratchet straps and cover it with a tarp tied on every side so the wind cannot lift it on the Corniche or the Haramain road.

- Nothing is loaded above the side rails except light pieces strapped well.
- A fridge is never moved lying down, and a washer’s drum is locked with its transit bolt if it has one.
- Glass is never loaded under heavy pieces.
- Before setting off I check the load one last time and tighten the straps.
Moving appliances: fridge, washer, AC and screen
Appliances are what gets damaged most on quick trips, and the cause is usually poor preparation rather than the road:
| Appliance | Prepare it before the trip | How I move it |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge | Switch it off at least six hours before, empty and dry it | Upright and strapped; do not switch it on at the new home for a few hours after it stands |
| Washer | Drain the water and lock the drum with the transit bolt if available | Upright, strapped to the side of the bed |
| Split AC | Needs technical removal and the gas pumped down into the outdoor unit | Both units covered and strapped, then installed at the new place |
| Screen | Keep the original box if you have it | In rigid cardboard or bubble film, always upright |
| Cooker | Close the gas and disconnect the hose | Strapped with the door taped shut |
Warning: do not move a full gas cylinder with the furniture. Empty it or move it separately in the proper way.
Showroom errands and collecting purchases
Many dabab trips in Jeddah start at a furniture showroom on Tahlia, Palestine or Hira Street, or at a seller who listed things for sale in another district. A little planning saves you time:
- Send me the showroom or seller location and your home location.
- Agree the handover time with the showroom, or tell the seller I am coming on your behalf.
- I check the piece before loading it: no scratches, nothing missing, and I photograph it for you if you are not there.
- I load it, cover it, deliver it to your home and carry it into the room.
I can call at more than one showroom or seller on the same trip; just give me the addresses in advance so I can plan the route. If you cancel the purchase before I arrive or the time changes, tell me straight away and we rearrange.

Bachelor rooms, students and moving in stages
A dabab is the best fit for anyone moving a single room: student housing near the university, a bachelor room in Al Sharafiyah or Al Aziziyah, or an employee moving to new accommodation. A mattress, small bed, small fridge and clothes cartons all go in one trip.
A dabab also suits people moving home in stages: the children’s things today, the kitchen tomorrow, the big pieces with a truck later. Or someone emptying a room for renovation and bringing the furniture back after painting.
Moving a bride’s trousseau and a new home’s furnishings
A new couple’s home usually comes together piece by piece from several places: the bedroom from a showroom, appliances from a shop, linens and kitchenware from the family home. I arrange the trips in the order that suits you and deliver everything to the new home covered and clean:
| From | What | What I watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture showroom | Bedroom, sofas and dining set | Coordinating pickup and assembly times |
| Appliance shop | Fridge, washer and cooker | Moving them upright in their boxes |
| Family home | Linens, clothes, kitchenware and gifts | Closed, labelled cartons |
| Curtain and carpet shop | Curtains and rolled carpets | Rugs rolled and tied without folding |
High floors, small lifts and residential compounds
Jeddah has old buildings with no lifts, new towers with lifts too small for a long sofa, and compounds that require an entry permit for the vehicle. All of this is arranged before the trip, not at the door:
- A high floor with no lift: tell me the floor in advance; we may need an extra helper for the stairs.
- A piece that does not fit the lift: we dismantle it if possible or carry it down the stairs, and in rare cases lower it from a balcony by rope where it is safe.
- Compounds and towers: ask security for a dabab entry permit and to book the service lift if there is one.
- Busy streets: in Al Safa and Al Aziziyah at rush hour I prefer early morning so I can park near the door.
Jeddah districts I cover
I work across all of Jeddah; these are the districts most of my requests come from:
| Area | Districts |
|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur North, Obhur South, Al Shati, Al Naeem, Al Zahra, Al Muhammadiyah, Al Sawari, Al Yaqout, Al Loulou, Al Hamdaniyah, Al Falah, Al Riyadh, Al Amwaj |
| Central Jeddah | Al Rawdah, Al Salamah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Andalus, Al Hamra, Al Rehab, Al Nahdah, Al Faisaliyah, Mishrifah, Al Bawadi, Al Nuzhah, Al Aziziyah |
| East Jeddah | Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Rabwah, Al Samer, Al Ajwad, Al Manar, Al Waha, Al Rayyan, Al Rawabi, Al Naseem, Al Harazat |
| South Jeddah | Al Jamiah, Bani Malik, Ghulail, Al Thaghr, Al Quraiyat, Al Sulaymaniyah, Al Kandarah, Al Hindawiyah, Al Balad, Quwaizah, Madain Al Fahd, Al Muntazahat, Briman |
If your district is not listed, I still reach it; just send the location.
Dabab trips outside Jeddah
I take your things from Jeddah to nearby cities, usually the same day: Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal, Khulais, Al Kamil and Al Jumum. A trip from Jeddah to Makkah starts from SAR 185, and I set the price for the other cities once I know the load and address. For longer distances or a load bigger than a dabab, moving between cities in a closed truck is better and safer for the furniture.
An urgent parcel to a far city or abroad? Air freight
Sometimes the trip is not inside Jeddah at all: documents, a gift or spare parts that must reach Riyadh or Dammam within a day, or family abroad within days. Here the dabab is the first step: I collect the parcel from your home or shop and take it to the shipping office, and from there it leaves by air freight from King Abdulaziz Airport. It is priced on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, so compact packing saves you money. For larger cartons that are not urgent, land parcel shipping costs less. See our shipping routes from Jeddah, such as shipping from Jeddah to Qatar.
Timing: urgent, night and how long a trip takes
- Urgent trips: if I am nearby I arrive shortly after your call, and in traffic I tell you the expected time honestly.
- Night: I work in the evening and after Isha, a good time for showrooms that open late.
- Duration: one item within the district usually takes under an hour, and a full room with dismantling and reassembly takes two to three hours.
- Changing the time: tell me as early as you can and we set another time without fuss.
How to book the dabab
- Call or WhatsApp me on +966531490666.
- Send a photo of the items and the pickup and drop-off locations.
- Mention the floor and whether there is a lift at both ends, and whether you need dismantling, packing or an extra helper.
- I give you the price and time before I set off.
- I arrive, load, strap and cover, then deliver and carry everything to your door.
A message like this is enough: “A fridge and washer from Al Safa, third floor, no lift, to Al Naseem, ground floor, today after Asr.”
On delivery: check piece by piece
Before I leave, we check together what arrived: the number of pieces and cartons, the condition of appliances and glass, the screws in their bags, and whatever we agreed to reassemble. A remark made on the spot is better than one discovered two days later.

- Count the cartons and match them with what was loaded.
- Open the fridge and washer doors and check the outside is sound.
- Make sure the bed and wardrobe stand firm after assembly.
- Keep your pre-loading photos until the check is done.
Mistakes that make a simple trip expensive
- Describing less than there is: “a few small things” turns out to include a big wardrobe, so another trip is needed.
- Not mentioning the floor: stairs with no lift change the time and the labour.
- Leaving drawers full: a heavy piece is hard to carry and its joints may break.
- Switching the fridge on straight away: it needs a few hours standing before it runs.
- Agreeing the price after loading: agree before the vehicle moves.
- Choosing a dabab for a whole home: many trips cost more than one truck.
