Distance and Route from Riyadh to Dammam
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Distance | About 400 km |
| Route | East along the Riyadh–Dammam Highway |
| Driving time by car | About four hours |
| Driving time for a loaded truck | Four and a half to five and a half hours |
| Arrival | Usually in the afternoon if loading starts in the morning |
It’s a dual-carriageway highway that crosses the Dahna desert and then passes plenty of petrol stations and rest stops, so there’s no need to stay overnight on the way. We usually stop once to check the straps, and we call you an hour before we reach Dammam so you can be at home, or have someone there to receive the furniture.
Eastern Province Humidity and Your Furniture
Riyadh’s air is dry, while Dammam’s is heavy with humidity for most of the year. The MDF in wardrobes and kitchens swells at the edges if it’s left exposed somewhere without air conditioning, and mattresses and sofas soak up moisture and smells. So we wrap upholstered and wooden pieces in film that slows the moisture down, put moisture absorbers in boxes of clothes and papers, and only remove the wrapping once the air conditioning is running in the new home. Our advice is to have the AC switched on two hours before we arrive.
Moving in One Day: When Is It Possible?
Because the distance is relatively short, small and medium apartments can be moved in a single day: we start dismantling and packing in Riyadh early in the morning, finish loading before noon, reach Dammam in the late afternoon, and unload and set up the essentials in the evening. For a villa or a large home, it’s better to load on one day and unload and reassemble the next morning, so the reassembly isn’t rushed late at night.
Furniture Moving Prices from Riyadh to Dammam
| Size | Price |
|---|---|
| A few items or appliances | From SAR 460 |
| Two-bedroom apartment | From SAR 740 |
| Three-bedroom apartment | From SAR 1,200 |
| Large or five-bedroom apartment | From SAR 1,840 |
| Villa | From SAR 3,680 |
Prices include the closed truck, loading, unloading and basic packing. The final price is set once we know the volume of furniture from photos or a survey, the floors at both homes, and whether you want full dismantling and reassembly and full packing.
What Changes the Price on This Route?
- The volume of furniture in cubic metres.
- A private truck just for your home, or a shared one for a few items.
- Floors and lifts in Riyadh and Dammam, and whether a furniture hoist is needed.
- Dismantling and reassembly, especially kitchens and large bedroom sets.
- Full packing for every piece, or only for the delicate ones.
How We Pack for a Long Road

What’s enough for a move within the same district isn’t enough for hours on a highway. Constant vibration finds out any piece that isn’t secured, and the heat inside the truck climbs in summer. So we add a second layer to upholstered and wooden pieces, stand mirrors and glass upright in reinforced cardboard frames, fill the gaps between items so nothing shifts, and secure the load to the walls of the truck with ratchet straps.
On the Dammam route we also seal mattresses in bags, keep boxes of papers and clothes away from the appliances, and write on every box which room it goes to in the new home.
Loading in Riyadh
We start by protecting the hallways and doors in your Riyadh home, then dismantle and wrap the wardrobes and beds. Heavy items go in first near the front of the truck, appliances stand upright strapped to the wall, boxes go on top of them, and glass and mirrors stand upright at the top. Whatever needs to go into the Dammam home first is loaded last.

| Private truck | Shared truck | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | A full home or villa | One room or a few items |
| Departure | The same day as loading | Once the truck is full |
| Cost | Higher | Lower |
From the First Box Loaded to the Last Piece in Dammam

| Stage | Approximate time |
|---|---|
| Dismantling, packing and loading | Three to six hours for an apartment, and a day for a villa |
| On the road | Four and a half to five and a half hours |
| Unloading and reassembly | Three to six hours |
| Total | Usually one day for an apartment, and a day and a half for a villa |
When you book, we tell you the loading time and the expected arrival time, and we call you when we leave Riyadh and again before we arrive.
Coordinating Between the Two Cities
A move between two cities needs arranging at both ends: in Riyadh, the loading time, the lift booking and a parking spot for the truck; at the destination, when you get the keys, the lift booking and an entry permit if the home is in a compound or a tower. We go through all of this with you before moving day and call you when we set off and before we arrive, so the truck never turns up to a locked home or a lift booked by someone else.
Moving Appliances and AC Units on a Long Road
Appliances are what get damaged most often on intercity moves, and the cause is usually poor preparation before loading. The fridge should be switched off at least six hours ahead, emptied and dried, then carried upright and strapped in, and it shouldn’t be switched on in the new home until it has been standing for a few hours. The washing machine is drained and its drum locked with the transit bolt if it has one. Split AC units are removed by a technician who pumps the gas back into the outdoor unit and seals the lines, and another technician installs them in the new city. TVs travel in their original boxes or in a reinforced carton, always upright.
Moving to Dammam: What to Expect
Dammam, Al Khobar and Dhahran are practically one continuous city, and people moving from Riyadh to Dammam are usually employees of companies in the Eastern Province or families moving back to be near relatives. The northern districts, such as Al Shati, Al Nuzhah and Al Faisaliyah, have villas and modern apartment buildings on wide streets; Dahiyat Al Malik Fahd, Al Nada and Al Fayha are family neighbourhoods full of duplex villas; and the older districts in the centre, such as Al Jalawiyah and Al Muraikabat, have older buildings and narrower streets. Dammam is also humid for most of the year, and that alone changes the way we pack.

Unloading and Reassembly in Dammam

We carry every piece into the room written on its wrapping, reassemble the bedrooms, tables and TV units, leave the fridge standing for a few hours before switching it on, take the packing materials away with us, and then go through the inventory with you item by item before we leave.
If Your New Home Isn’t Ready Yet
Sometimes you’re done with the Riyadh home before you get the keys to the one in Dammam. Temporary storage keeps your furniture packed and numbered until you have the keys, then we deliver it and set it up.
Moving Just a Few Items
Not everyone who calls us is moving a whole home. Some want a bedroom set for a son who’s just started a job in Dammam, or a majlis, a fridge and a washing machine for a small apartment, or the belongings of a single employee. We usually send these smaller loads on a shared truck, so you pay for the space your things take up rather than for a whole truck, and we pack and number them just as we would a full home. Send us a list or photos of the items, and we’ll tell you whether a shared or private truck suits them and when the next trip leaves.
Truck Size and Hoists for High Floors
During the survey we estimate the volume of your furniture in cubic metres, which tells us whether a dyna will do or we need a full-size truck. If your home in Riyadh or Dammam is on a high floor with a small lift, we add an electric furniture hoist for the large pieces, and we tell you about it and what it costs before moving day so there are no surprises.
Book Early in Peak Seasons
At the end of the school year and during the holidays, trips from Riyadh to Dammam fill up days in advance. Book at least a week ahead at those times, and two or three days ahead the rest of the year. If you need an urgent date, let us know; we can often find room for you on a trip that’s leaving soon.
Inventory and Records Before the Truck Leaves
Before loading, we write up a list with you of the large pieces and the number of boxes, photograph valuable items and their condition, and put every set of screws in a numbered bag tied to its piece. That list is what we go through with you on delivery in the other city, so nothing goes missing and there’s no dispute about the condition of any piece.
Special Items: Chandeliers, Antiques and Pianos
Some pieces need more than standard packing: crystal chandeliers are taken down and placed in padded crates, antiques and paintings go in wooden or reinforced cardboard frames, and pianos and very heavy pieces are secured separately inside the truck. Tell us about them before moving day so we can prepare the right materials.
Moving in the Other Direction
We also move from Dammam to Riyadh the same way and at similar prices. If you have a move in both directions, such as clearing out a home in Dammam and bringing part of it to Riyadh, we combine it into one trip wherever we can.

The Move from First Call to Last Piece
- Survey and estimate: you send photos of the rooms or we visit you, so we know the volume in cubic metres, the large pieces and the floors.
- Price and date: we give you a clear price and what it covers, and agree on the loading day and arrival day.
- Dismantling and packing: on loading day, or the day before for large homes, with the right material for every piece.
- Loading and inventory: arranged to protect every piece, with a list of the boxes and items.
- The road: a closed truck, a driver who knows the route, and updates for you along the way.
- Unloading and reassembly: every piece in its room, then a final check before we leave.
