Moving Preparation Checklist

p>A smooth move starts long before moving day. This plan comes from our experience moving homes, and it helps you reach the day with everything ready, so you do not lose hours hunting for a box or waiting for a lift.

The Timeline

When	What to do
Three weeks before	Decide what to move and what to sell or donate, then request a survey and book your date
Two weeks before	Collect boxes and start packing what you do not use every day
One week before	Arrange the transfer of electricity, water and internet accounts, and book the service lift in both buildings
Two days before	Pack the kitchen, keeping a few essentials out, and write the contents and room on every box
The day before	Unplug and dry the fridge, empty the washing machine, and pack a bag for the first few days
Moving day	Keep documents, gold and medicines with you, and check the home room by room before leaving
In the new home	Check the boxes against the list, and switch the fridge on only after it has stood for a few hours

Room-by-Room Checklist

Bedroom

• Empty the wardrobes into suitcases and boxes.
• Photograph how the bed fits together if it is complicated.

Kitchen

• Pack plates on their edge, not flat.
• Do not move flammable materials or a full gas cylinder.

Living Room and Majlis

• Disconnect the screens and keep their cables in a bag with each piece.
• Roll up and tie the rugs.

What Always Stays With You

• IDs, passports and tenancy contracts.
• Gold, jewellery and cash.
• Medicines and essential items for the children.
• Chargers and the keys to the new home.

Common Mistakes

• Booking late during peak periods.
• Describing less than you actually have, then finding on moving day that the vehicle is too small.
• Forgetting to book the lift.
• Switching the fridge on the moment it arrives.
